On 9th October 2021 at Lleiroso we brought in the last of the grape harvest. Then, on 29th October, when the last vat of the new wine had been run off the skins, we were at last able to assess the quality and quantity of the year’s crop.
The drought conditions that persisted throughout the whole of the summer had reduced the yield. However, the rains that arrived just before the picking enhanced the ripening of the fruit and led to a perfectly healthy crop.
The harvesting was done by hand with great care and attention, and the grapes were conveyed to the cellars in small crates that were no more than 15kg capacity.
These high quality standards are reflected in our policy of producing low-yield crops. Despite the maximum yield allowed by the Ribera del Duero Regulating Council being 7,000kg of grapes per hectare, we produce an average of only 5,000kg per hectare, which enables us to produce grapes of high quality, excellent health and with a high concentration of components, all of which are essential in order to achieve wines of extremely high quality, and which this year resulted in a wine of especially high concentration and deep colour.
